Cold weather, warm stitches

I’ll be honest, when I sat down to write this blog post, my brain was about as grey as the weather outside. Zero inspiration, cold fingers, and a strong urge to just make another cup of coffee instead. ☕😅

So before we go any further, grab yourself a hot brew (or whatever keeps you warm), get comfy, and let’s dive in.

Perfect weather for crochet

It’s cold, it’s wet, and everything outside feels a bit miserable. But if there’s one upside to this weather, it’s that it’s perfect crochet weather.

This is the kind of season where slowing down feels natural. The rain taps on the windows, the days feel a little heavier, and suddenly sitting with yarn and a hook feels like exactly where you’re meant to be.

Behind the scenes at Rockin’ Threads Creations

Lately, I’ve been spending my days crocheting stock for Love Local Hub MK. Lots of repeating stitches, counting rows (and recounting them…), and watching handmade pieces slowly come together.

There’s something really comforting about this part of the process. It’s quiet, steady, and reminds me why I love creating handmade flowers in the first place.

Why crochet flowers shine in winter

This time of year always reminds me why crocheted flowers are so special. When fresh flowers struggle in the cold, crochet blooms keep bringing colour, warmth, and a little bit of joy into your home.

No watering. No wilting. Just long-lasting beauty that doesn’t mind grey skies.

A little love on a stem

If winter feels a bit heavy (and honestly, it often does), thoughtful gifts mean even more. That’s why my Birth Month Flowers are one of my favourite pieces to make.

February’s birth flower: Violet 💜

As we step into February, its birth flower takes centre stage and it is the violet. Violets symbolise loyalty, faithfulness, and quiet strength. They may be small, but they carry a lot of meaning, making them a beautiful reminder that strength doesn’t always need to shout.

To add a little extra warmth, I’ve introduced a heart on a stem. A small, meaningful addition that feels like a hug in yarn form. Right now, when you buy a February Birth Month Flower (or any birth month flower), you can get the heart on a stem with 15% off.

It’s perfect for February birthdays, thoughtful “just because” gifts, or a gentle reminder to yourself that you’re doing alright.

Wedding florals that last forever

Behind the scenes, I’m also working on something special for couples planning their big day. My buttonhole wedding corsages and bridesmaids bouquets will soon be available online only through my Etsy shop and website.

Crochet wedding flowers are designed to last. No wilting, no rushing, and something you can keep long after the day itself. Even in the depths of winter, love stories are always quietly being planned.

Crocheted Hearts & Everlasting Flowers: Handmade Keepsakes That Tell a Story

At Rockin’ Threads Creations, every stitch has a purpose. What started as a love for yarn, flowers, and handmade beauty has grown into a small business built on creating pieces that last longer than the moment they’re given.

As January settles in and Valentine’s Day peeks around the corner, I’ve been busy designing something new to sit alongside my crocheted flowers, crocheted hearts on a stem. Just like everything I make, they’re designed to be meaningful, versatile, and full of heart.

Why Crocheted Hearts?

Valentine’s Day is often filled with short-lived gifts, flowers that fade, chocolates that disappear, cards that are tucked away. Crocheted hearts offer something different.

They’re a keepsake, made slowly and intentionally, designed to be cherished long after the occasion has passed. Whether they’re gifted in love, friendship, or remembrance, they carry meaning far beyond the day they’re given.

Placed on a stem, these hearts can be used in so many ways:

  • Added to a bouquet for a personal, handmade touch

  • Gifted on their own as a sweet Valentine or Galentine gesture

  • Displayed in a vase as simple seasonal décor

  • Paired with crocheted flowers for an everlasting alternative to fresh blooms

  • Kept as a reminder of love long after Valentine’s Day

Watch the Crocheted Hearts Being Made

I’ve added a short video below showing how the crocheted hearts are made by hand, from the first stitch to the final shape.

I love sharing these behind-the-scenes moments because they show the care, time, and intention that goes into each piece. Crocheting is a calm, thoughtful process for me there’s no rushing and no mass production. Each heart is made slowly, with purpose, and with the person who will eventually receive it in mind.

I hope watching the process gives you a little glimpse into the heart behind Rockin’ Threads Creations.

Crocheted Hearts as Comfort, Keepsake & Duo Hearts

Crocheted hearts aren’t only for gifting or decorating but they can also carry deep emotional meaning.

They can be used as comfort hearts, keepsake hearts, or duo hearts, offering connection during some of life’s most difficult moments. Duo hearts are often given as a matching pair, one for the person who is nearing the end of life, and one for a loved one to keep close. Even when they are apart, the hearts serve as a quiet reminder that they are still connected.

These types of hearts are often used by hospices to give to people who are dying and their families. Small enough to be held in the hand or kept close, they can bring comfort, reassurance, and a sense of closeness at a time when words often fall short.

Made softly and intentionally, crocheted hearts can become something to hold onto, not just physically, but emotionally too.

What Is Galentine’s Day?

To be honest when I saw this term the first time I didn’t know what it meant but after some research this is what I got out of it.

Galentine’s Day is celebrated on 13th February, the day before Valentine’s Day, and is all about celebrating friendship and platonic love.

While Valentine’s Day often focuses on romantic relationships, Galentine’s Day is a chance to appreciate your best friends, chosen family, and the people who support and uplift you. Whether it’s a small gift, a thoughtful note, or something handmade, it’s about connection and appreciation. So it is a lovely day to celebrate friendships.

Crocheted hearts and everlasting crochet flowers make beautiful Galentine’s Day gifts. Thoughtful, personal, and designed to be kept.

More Than Flowers: The Story Behind Rockin’ Threads Creations

Rockin’ Threads Creations was born from a love of handmade craftsmanship and meaningful design. I wanted to create floral pieces that could be enjoyed every day — not just for a week or two.

Every flower is crocheted by hand using quality yarns, carefully shaped and finished so they feel realistic, timeless, and full of character. No two are ever exactly the same, and that individuality is part of their charm.

I specialize in Birth Month Flowers. Every month has its own flower that will make it the perfect gift. They are unique and everlasting. Next to the Birth Month Flowers I make all kinds of Home decor flowers. And occasionally I crochet items such as the hearts for Valentine’s Day.

How You Can Use Crocheted Flowers

One of the things my customers love most is how versatile crocheted flowers are. They fit beautifully into many moments and spaces:

  • Home décor for shelves, vases, and workspaces

  • Meaningful gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones

  • Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day keepsakes

  • Weddings and events as lasting floral alternatives. (There is a line of wedding bouquets coming up shortly)

  • Memory and tribute pieces chosen with intention

Caring for Your Crocheted Flowers

Crocheted flowers are wonderfully easy to care for:

  • No watering required

  • No wilting or shedding petals

  • Keep dry and away from direct sunlight

  • Light dusting or gentle shaking keeps them fresh

  • You can also clean them with a damp cloth.

They’re designed to be enjoyed year after year.

A Handmade Alternative That Lasts

Whether it’s a crocheted heart or a full floral arrangement, each piece from Rockin’ Threads Creations is made with intention, care, and a love for detail.

In a world that moves quickly, these creations invite you to slow down, to give something thoughtful, personal, and lasting.
